Kirk Herbstreit Reacts to Ohio State’s Blowout Rose Bowl Win Over Oregon
On Wednesday afternoon the Ohio State Buckeyes dominated the formerly undefeated No. 1 team in the country, the Oregon Ducks, in a 41-21 beatdown in the Rose Bowl.
Head coach Ryan Day admitted the road to a College Football Playoff semifinal isn’t exactly what the team expected, but getting to play another week was “the only thing that mattered.”
“At the end of the day, we wanted to win a national championship, and the way that we got here wasn’t what we expected. It wasn’t what we planned for,” he told reporters after the game. “But, nonetheless, we had an opportunity to come back and play Oregon after we had already played them early in the season, and that’s the only thing that mattered. The winner gets to play together another week. The loser doesn’t.”
Former Ohio State quarterback and beloved ESPN analyst Kirk Herbstreit was on the call for the game and saw first hand how dominant the Buckeyes were. While there were plenty of players and coaches deserving of praise after the win, Herbstreit focused on the coaches of the trenches.
“A lot of love being shown to many of the Ohio State players and coaches and obviously well deserved. But just wanted again to give some more love to Larry Johnson (Ohio State’s DL coach) and Justin Frye (Ohio State’s OL coach),” Herbstreit said in a message on social media. “The Buckeyes have DOMINATED the LOS the last 2 games and these 2 and their guys deserve a ton of credit!”
Ohio State did, in fact, dominate the line of scrimmage, rushing for 181 yards and two touchdowns while finishing the game with eight sacks, leading to -23 rushing yards for the Ducks.
Next up for Ohio State is a battle against the Texas Longhorns, who took down the Arizona State Sun Devils in a double-overtime College Football Playoff quarterfinal matchup.
