Christian McCaffrey Has 2-Word Message for Cam Skattebo After Historic Performance
In the days leading up to a College Football Playoff showdown against Texas, Arizona State star running back Cam Skattebo made it clear no one can stop him.
“They continue to keep saying that people are going to try to stop me,” Skattebo told reporters in a media day session this week. “There’s nobody out there that can stop me. We played in 13 games, and I’ve been the target on each one, so I’m not too worried. We’re going to play our game and play ball and see what happens there.
“If they’re studying hard, there’s a reason. I have full respect for them, because they understand what they’re playing against, and that’s why I love playing in games like this, because they constantly look at me as a threat, and that’s something I’ve always wanted to be. And if I’m a threat on the football field against an SEC team that was the runner-up to win their conference, then I think I’m in a pretty good position.”
While the Sun Devils ultimately lost 39-31 in double-overtime, Skattebo was right, Texas couldn’t stop him.
The star running back who finished fifth in Heisman Trophy voting racked up 143 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 30 carries. He also threw a 42-yard touchdown pass and racked up 99 yards on eight receptions, winning Peach Bowl offensive MVP honors despite being on the losing side.
Following his historic performance, Skattebo received a message from one of the NFL‘s best, Christian McCaffrey.
“Young Bull,” McCaffrey wrote on his Instagram story over a photo of Skattebo wearing his 49ers jersey.
While Arizona State’s season is over, the talented running back knows the program is heading in the right direction.
“This is just the beginning for us,” Skattebo said. “No matter what, these guys will be in my life forever. It’s awesome that I was able to play football for and with them.”
