No 25 Penn State women’s gymnastics falls to Clemson in regular season finale
No. 25 Penn State put up a strong fight against No. 27 Clemson in a highly competitive meet but ultimately fell short on Friday evening in Littlejohn Coliseum, 196.425-196.150.
Rotation One
The Nittany Lions started the meet off on their strongest apparatus: the uneven bars. The blue and white scored a 49.100, led by Dani Latronica and Gabrielle Gallentine, who both tallied a 9.850 in their routines.
Elizabeth Leary followed closely, scoring a 9.800 for the event, matched by teammates Elina Vihrova and Cassi Barbanente.
Allison Kaemfer rounded out the first rotation with a score of 9.725, giving the Nittany Lions early momentum.
Rotation Two
The second rotation of the night for Penn State was vault, where it scored a 48.850.
Ellie Monahan started the rotation off with a strong vault and landed a score of 9.725. Elina Vihrova was the second gymnast in the rotation, matching Monahans’ 9.725.
Maddie Johnston led the Nittany Lions in their second rotation with a 9.875, putting forth a standout performance.
The blue and white remained consistent with scores of 9.700 or better on vault. The Nittany Lions tallied a 97.950 through two rotations, trailing Clemson by a narrow margin of 0.075.
Rotation Three
The Nittany Lions continued the competition on floor for the third rotation, with a score of 48.975. Ashley Maul landed with a score of 9.725 to start the lineup.
Alyssa Kramer led the rotation with another high score of 9.850 to pace the blue and white.
Freshman Bella Misiura closed the rotation with a strong performance and a score of 9.825, keeping the Nittany Lions in the fight as they entered the final rotation with an overall score of 146.925.
Rotation Four
Penn State concluded the meet against Clemson on beam, where they scored a season-best 49.225.
Ashley Maul started the last rotation and landed a 9.875 on beam, which tied her career-high.
Johnston and Isabella Salcedo scored 9.875s to close out the rotation for the blue and white, but it wasn’t enough. Penn State dropped its regular season finale on the road, 196.425-196.150.
