BYU basketball revamps 2025-26 roster with signing of Dominique Diomande

Dominique Diomande announced plans last Saturday to join BYU from the transfer portal. As an NBA-caliber prospect, he will be looking to make an immediate impact on a BYU roster already brimming with talent.

As if BYU fans needed another reason to be excited about next season, Dominique Diomande announced plans last Saturday to join an already deep BYU roster from the transfer portal. He will join the ranks of the number one overall recruit AJ Dybantsa, Keba Keita, King Richard, and more.

Diomande will be joining The Cougars from the University of Washington, where he joined mid-season and redshirted without making an appearance in a game. Before coming to the United States, the French forward played overseas in France’s U-21 league, where he averaged 16 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists, and 1.8 steals per game.

Where does he fit in the lineup?

Perhaps no other player had as big of an impact for BYU on the defensive side of the court than Mawot Mag. With Mag concluding his last year of eligibility, one of BYU’s biggest needs this offseason is to fill those shoes in the starting lineup with someone who can play great defense.

Dominique Diomande is that guy.

Standing at 6’7” and at 190 pounds, Dominique’s athleticism will allow him to play effective perimeter defense, as well as defend at a high-level on the interior.

Performing well on both ends of the court, he also provides upside on the offensive side of the ball. If Egor Demin stays for one more year, he and Dominique will no doubt combine well with Dominique’s finishing ability and Egor’s elite passing.

Diomande brings years of professional basketball experience to BYU. Before coming to the United States, Diomande was projected to be a top-50 pick in the NBA draft.

Like BYU, Diomande has an incredibly high ceiling, and will be looking to take the next step in his career by contributing to a team that will be looking to make another deep NCAA Tournament run.
