Breaking down the importance of having general manager Courtney Morgan on staff
One of the most important people in Alabama’s facility is general manager Courtney Morgan. Despite the lack of attention and praise, Morgan works effortlessly to assemble the best possible roster for Alabama.
Over the course of his career, Morgan has been a part of building two rosters that reached the College Football Playoff — Washington and Michigan. Both of which competed against one another in the 2024 College Football National Championship.
Since arriving in Tuscaloosa in 2024, Morgan has been an integral recruiter for the Crimson Tide. During an episode of the New Wave Podcast, Morgan spoke about his first recruiting objective — get Ryan Williams to sign with Alabama.
“The plane landed and it was like… we got to get Ryan Williams,” Morgan said.
Williams later added, “Y’all made me feel at home off the rip, so it was no way I was going anywhere else.”
Additionally, Kalen DeBoer sang Morgan’s praises when speaking with Adam Breneman of Next Up.
“He’s got his hands in everything, and I let him do that because he’s got great vision and takes pride in what he does,” DeBoer said, “He’s a relationship guy.”
Morgan’s role is one of great importance. His name holds a lot of weight in the building and rightfully so. He is tasked with developing relationships with recruits and their parents as well as figuring out the NIL landscape which is critical in helping build the best possible roster.
His background speaks for itself but working at Alabama is a different animal. Morgan understands his role and will work effortlessly along with the rest of Alabama’s coaching staff to turn things around in 2025. He has helped recruit a number of transfers over the last two offseasons and will continue to moving forward.
Morgan has full control of managing the roster and making the necessary moves to give the team the best chance to win. The fact that Morgan is on Alabama’s staff is vastly important to the future of the football program and the direction that the program is headed. General managers have become a hot commodity across college football, and Morgan is arguably one of the best in the game.
