Indiana is getting done at the plate with highest batting average in college softball

The Indiana softball team has been hot at the plate all season long, and it is showing in their overall batting average. Even though the Hoosiers are not ranked and are 19-5, their offense is not a problem for them. The Hoosiers have received some votes in the latest rankings, and with the seven-game win streak they are currently riding, they could be in the rankings soon if they take care of business against Iowa this weekend.
So far this season, Indiana has an overall .402 batting average, the best in all of college softball and by a large margin, too. According to the NCAA DI softball stats, the closest team to Indiana’s batting average is Texas, the current No. 2 team in the country, with a .392 team average, 0.012 less than the Hoosiers.

During Indiana’s current seven-game win streak, the Hoosiers have run-ruled six of their seven opponents, scoring double digits in five of those seven games as well.
The Hoosiers, when it comes to hitting so far, have 237 total hits this season; 52 of those are doubles, seven are triples, and 24 are home runs. Indiana also has 175 RBIs so far this season and an overall 0.635 slugging percentage.
As Indiana is ready to head into Big Ten play starting this Saturday against Iowa for a two-game series, the Hoosiers will be tested more at the plate, but if they can keep their bats hot, pitching and fielding will continue to fall into place.
Indiana’s only losses this season have come at the hands of FIU in their first game of the season, two games against a ranked Texas Tech team, and two games against a hot Clemson team. The Hoosiers have a chance to really prove something in the coming weeks of Big Ten play, but having the best team batting average in the country going into conference play is a good place to start.
